Introduction

Coronary heart disease is one of Scotland’s biggest killers; stroke is the main cause of disability in the community and chest illness is the biggest single reason people use the health service.

When Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland approached our agency partner Frame Creative in 2007, the brief was to deliver an online presence that reflected the charity’s aims and ambitions.

The site needed to provide detailed and accurate information, advice and support to patients and carers. It also needed to promote the valuable fundraising activities which provide essential income to the charity.

We were delighted to be involved from the initial design brief through to delivery of finished PHP and CSS templates and beyond to content migration, rollout and support.

Working alongside stakeholders from NHS Scotland and usability consultants User Vision, we designed an accessible, usable and memorable site for the client. We continue to work closely with the charity’s staff to ensure that the site delivers accurate, understandable and useful content to its users.

Announcing the beta release of eeCard, an ExpressionEngine-powered postcard system.

Features

Your site’s users select a card from a gallery of designs, add a message and send to a friend.

Cards are stored as standard weblog content within ExpressionEngine, so can easily be maintained by site owners.

The user interface is slick and intuitive, using jQuery to open a composition window via a modal dialog.

Email is handed using PHPMailer, so eeCards works even if your host has disabled PHP’s mail(). You can use your ISP’s SMTP server if need be.

An admin-only stats screen that lets you see stuff like who sent what to whom, and when cards were read. It also lets you download stats in CSV format for further editing in Excel.

Notes

We’re making this release available under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license.

At this point there are a few rough edges to the installation process: for example you’ll need to manually create an additional database table (the SQL to do this is provided, however) and modify a couple of config files with your own settings in order to get started.

That said, it’s all laid out in the step-by-step Read Me file included with this release, and you can use the comments on this page to post any queries you might have (as well as to post URLs of sites you’ve implemented eeCard on!)

Download

Introduction

Gibson Videoconferencing is a small firm providing a complete videoconferencing service to clients of all shapes and sizes. They lacked a web presence and wanted an easy to use, easy to maintain site which could be built on.

Brief

When Gibson Videconferencing came to us in 2007, the brief was to deliver a simple, stylish and jargon-free site which the client could easily maintain.

The aim was to enable prospective customers to quickly understand the service offering, allowing them to register to download a white paper and providing a contact form to request further info.

From initial client meeting through wireframes and design mockups and on to CMS templates, we delivered an ExpressionEngine-powered site which lets the client maintain content quickly and simply using only a browser.

Features

Quick-loading, search engine optimised and accessible

ExpressionEngine content management system allowing updates using only a browser and providing the flexibility to add features (forums, wiki) as needed

Accessible jQuery image slideshow

Accessible Flash headings provide a distinctive look and feel
